Harrods sells luxury handbags for £8 in online error

  • Customers swooped on luxury Aspinal of London handbags after an online error
  • A Marylebone tote bag which normally costs £950 was on offer for £8.08
  • Christmas shoppers were delighted as prices plummeted for the high-end bags

Quick-witted Christmas shoppers hit the jackpot yesterday when luxury Italian handbags went on sale for just a few pounds on the Harrods website.

The store sold out of Aspinal of London handbags last night after what appears to have been an online error, as some of the high-quality items were listed for as little as £2.13.

Shoppers were quick to pounce on the dramatic price cuts at the renowned London department store, as a Marylebone tote bag which would normally have cost them £950 went on sale for just £8.08.

High-end leather saddle bags and black patent Portobello bags were also on offer for less than £5, according to the Evening Standard.

One shopper told the paper: ‘I couldn’t believe my eyes and luck when I saw the handbags.

‘Now I hope that Harrods honour the mistake and I get my £800 handbag for a fiver.’

While the website is previewing a 30 per cent sale on designer handbags, yesterday’s discount went a bit further than expected.

Some of the cheap bags were still listed on the Harrods website this morning but had sold out after Thursday’s sudden clamour.

Aspinal of London describes the Marylebone tote bag on its website as ‘an arm candy favourite’ and a ‘luxuriously chic and sophisticated’ product.

MailOnline has contacted Harrods for a comment.
