Health care worker, Bernard Betts-King, 60, (pictured in mugshot) has been arrested and charged with raping and impregnating mentally incapacitated woman at a Virginia facility

A 60-year-old health care worker in Virginia has been been arrested and charged for allegedly raping a mentally incapacitated woman after the patient gave birth and a DNA examination proved him to be the father.

Bernard Betts-King, who was previously employed as a behavioral specialist at the MVLE Community Center in Springfield, allegedly raped the unidentified patient who was under his care early last year, police officials in Fairfax County said.

Fairfax County Police Major Crimes Captain Thea Pirnat said her department was informed about the disturbing allegation in August.

That’s when a family member to the victim brought her to the doctor and learned she was expecting.

Pirnat described the patient to Fox 10 as ‘a vulnerable adult’ who is ‘not capable of giving consent.’

The captain said: ‘We were able to through our investigation look at who had access to this individual. We were eventually able to link it to the arrested subject.’

Investigators have linked the suspect to another potential victim suffering mental health issues.

The alleged rapist had been given access to one-on-one contact with patients at the facility.

‘We are actually working a second case right now that we have learned there are commonalities,’ Pirnat said.

‘We believe its going to be linked to him and we are doing DNA processing in that particular case.

‘Same facility, same circumstances… whe is a vulnerable adult she is not able to give consent to some cognitive impairment issues and that’s what our concern is.’

According to the station, Betts-King worked at another mental health service center, Community Living Alternatives in Fairfax, up until his recent arrest.

Police have asked relatives of other patients who were cared for by Betts-King to come forward if they may have noticed behavioral or medical changes in their loved ones.

‘We are very concerned that this is potentially a predator that was targeting vulnerable adults,’ Pirnat added.

The suspect does not have a prior criminal history. Investigation is underway.

The MVLE Community Center helps provide employment and other social services to individuals suffering disabilities, according to its website.
