Heartless youths torment homeless person in the middle of the night – ripping his blanket away and dousing him in water

  • The unnamed man reached out to a local community group after the attack
  • He recognised one of the assailants from previous assaults a few months ago
  • After four years living on the streets, he said he has never felt more unsafe

A group of youths tormented a homeless person in the middle of the night by ripping off his blanket and dousing him in water.

The man, who wanted to remain anonymous, reached out to local community group Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands after the ordeal to attempt to track down the thugs.

Mother and daughter duo Linda and Cassidy Strickland run the not-for-profit, and took to their social media page to call out those involved in last weekend’s attack.

‘He wanted me to ask you why,’ the post read.

The victim went on to say that he didn’t want any trouble and ‘just wants to be left alone.’

‘He is harmless and a nice person.’

The man recognised one of his tormentors, and said that it was not the first time the boy had attacked him.

A few months ago, he claimed people in cars ‘thought it funny’ to turn up late at night every few weeks, taunt him, stand over him and otherwise intimidate him.

He said the tensions had died down for a while, but last night was worse than any previous incidents.

‘Last night one of our beautiful patrons who many of you know was again the target of harassment,’ Linda and Cassidy said.

They said they were disgusted by the culprits ‘utter disregard for another human being. Especially one so vulnerable.’

‘If your aim was making someone now terrified to sleep in their ‘home’, you did. If your aim was to humiliate them, you did.’

‘If your aim was to traumatise him, you did,’ they said.

He has since been given a rape whistle to use in emergencies, but still does not have access to a mobile phone or shelter.
