Heath Ledger’s dad Kim opens about his memory ten years on

He was the highly acclaimed actor who tragically passed away in 2008 after an accidental overdose.

And opening up about his son Heath Ledger’s death, his father Kim has admitted that even ten year’s on, the memory of losing his son is still fresh. 

Accepting a GQ award for the scholarship he started in his son’s name, the Perth-based businessman said he felt the same emotions as he did nine years earlier at the same event.

Setting up The Heath Ledger Scholarship on behalf of his son, the family has helped further the careers of aspiring Australian artists.

Speaking at the VIP night, Kim thanked the industry for the kindness and assistance they showed Heath.

And to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Oscar-winning actor’s death, Foxtel will be playing his 17 most highly-acclaimed films including 10 Things I Hate About You and The Dark Knight between Friday January 19 to Sunday January 21. 

Beginning with his 1999 movie Two Hands, the three-day-long screening event will end with the 2017 documentary, I Am Heath Ledger.

In January 2008, Heath, 28, passed away from a cardiac arrest brought on by a prescription drug overdose.

In recent interview with Porter magazine, the actress shared that she’s finally made peace with losing Heath.

‘I watched Matilda warm in the sun, in her swimsuit, get on her bicycle and smile and wave as she rode off to go meet her friends,’ she recalled. 

‘I went back into the house and sobbed because of this incredibly simple moment – common everyday happiness.’ 

‘I really feel like in that moment, like wow, we’ve done it. Not only are we OK, she’s happy. Life has brought us to a place that’s not just surviving, but thriving.’
