How Kyle Sandilands was fired from Channel Ten after THAT lie detector scandal in 2009

Kyle Sandilands, 47, has officially buried the hatched with executives at Channel 10.

The radio shock-jock’s return comes nine years after he was unceremoniously booted from defunct Channel 10 program Australian Idol interrogating a teenage rape victim on his 2Day FM radio show.

In August 2009, Kyle and his 2Day FM co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson sparked outrage when a 14-year-old girl was strapped to a lie detector and asked about her sexual history during an on-air segment.

‘Why would I go back to a dog of a network that treated me so badly?’ How Kyle Sandilands was fired from Channel Ten after THAT lie detector scandal in 2009… as he buries the hatchet to host new show Trial by Kyle

The girl began crying and revealed she had been raped when she was 12.

Kyle replied: ‘Right… is that the only experience you’ve had?’ before Jackie swiftly cut off the segment and announcing that the radio network had no knowledge of the rape.

It was too little too late for Kyle, however, with Channel 10 announcing he was to be dumped from the judging panel of Australian Idol as a direct result of the backlash.

Network Ten programming boss David Mott said at the time: ‘We thank Kyle for his contribution to Australian Idol over the last four years.’

‘But it has become increasingly clear that as Idol has remained a family-focused show, even more so this year with the 6.30pm Sunday time slot, his radio persona has taken on a more controversial position over this period which is not in the interest of the show,’ he continued.

‘The recent controversy surrounding Kyle’s radio program has highlighted more than ever the conflicting attitude of the two careers.’ he said.

Kyle’s Australian Idol contract was reportedly worth $1 million.

Meanwhile, Kyle and Jackie O’s show was put into ‘indefinite recess’ for two weeks by Austereo, with media personality Chris Page taking control of the breakfast spot for that time.

But it appears the hatchet has been well and truly buried, with Kyle announcing his shock return to Channel 10 live on his KIIS FM breakfast show this Wednesday.

Titled Trial by Kyle, the show will feature a Judge Judy-style format that will see Kyle presiding over everything from petty disputes to celebrity feuds.

‘I’m returning to Channel 10. The people who terribly fired me back in the day. If I hold grudges, why would I go back to a dog of a network that treated me so badly?’ he told Jackie.

‘I’ve signed off on it. I’ve signed off to do one [episode] — I’m not sure how it’s going to go,’ he explained.

‘People will come in with their stupid arguments (and) neighbourhood disputes, maybe some girl got a tit job and she wants to sue her doctor.’

The show will reportedly air on Channel Ten, however the network has not yet confirmed reports.
