He was a talented cricketer making waves in the representative scene and she was a ‘highly competent and experienced nanny’ working in Canberra.
The scene was set for Nathan Lyon and Melissa Waring to meet on the dance floor at Mooseheads – a popular nightclub heaving with young university students.
The pair, both in their early 20s, were said to have hit it off instantly and sparked up a relationship that lasted a decade.

Lyon went from strength to strength, cementing his place in the national side in 2011 as a prodigious spin bowler, taking his first wicket off his first Test ball.
Ms Waring slotted straight in to the WAGs, also known as the ‘Girls on Tour’, and built up lasting friendships with the wives of some of the country’s biggest cricket stars.
In 2013, she traveled with the team to England for The Ashes in 2013 while heavily pregnant. She gave birth to a young girl, and then another girl two years later.
Lyon watched the birth of his youngest daughter on Skype in the middle of the night because he was on a cricket tour of the United Arab Emirates.
But on Thursday, Lyon’s ‘secret relationship’ with a glamorous blonde was revealed.
Lyon, 30, was caught in a passionate kiss with Emma McCarthy, 26, in pictures obtained by MailOnline.

Ms Waring’s public displays of support for Lyon on social media and family snapshots suggested the relationship was ongoing.
She had posted a picture of the family of four together on social media as recently as Wednesday, captioning the image with the words ‘#Christmas #family.’
Her profile on both Facebook and Instagram feature her with Lyon and her pages are peppered with references to Lyon as ‘daddy’, ‘our man’ and ‘our world’.
A source close to Lyon insisted it was not an affair because the ten year long relationship with the mother of his children had run its course some time ago.
But an emotional Ms Waring appeared distraught after news of her partner’s secret relationship broke on Thursday.
‘We have two small children I have to put first… I’m the one being f***ed around here,’ she told Daily Mail Australia this week.
Asked whether she was still with Lyon, she said: ‘I think seeing his car sitting in the drive way and his washing sitting here, that probably gives you enough of an idea.’
