Hugh Jackman continues the banter with Ryan Reynolds

They’ve found themselves in a bit of healthy competition, starring in rival superhero films.

And proving that the banter is still alive, Hugh Jackman, couldn’t help but drop in Ryan Reynold’s name during a chat with Triple M’s Grill Team on Thursday.

Calling in on his 49th birthday to reveal his plans, Hugh joked of the Deadpool actor: ‘I’ll go out tonight to a nice steak restaurant with my buddy, with my best mate.’

The Grill Team’s Emma Freedman quizzed Hugh on how he plans on celebrating his birthday.

The Wolverine star replied: ‘Working in Atlanta doing a movie here, and then I’ll go out tonight to a nice steak restaurant with my buddy, with my best mate out here – Ryan Reynolds. He flew in especially.’

After the Grill Team questioned Hugh on whether he was working on a film with Ryan, he quipped sarcastically: ‘No he’s just flown in, you know because he’s my best mate and he said I want to be there on your big day.’

In March, a hilarious Twitter feud erupted while Hugh was in Beijing to promote his latest X-Men movie Logan.

It started with a simple Tweet from Hugh saying: ‘Thanks for an amazing visit Beijing!’ with a photo of him posing gleefully with some adoring fans.

Ryan then seized his moment for a witty comeback, replying to Hugh: ‘Pretty sure those are protesters.’

The comeback rendered Hugh speechless while he replied with a simple yet effective ‘Really?…Guy?…Really?!’

The banter between the two Hollywood stars was also evident after the trailer for Ryan’s movie Deadpool 2 dropped just days before Hugh’s Logan premiere.

The trailer saw the ‘anti-hero’ Deadpool trying to save a man but because it takes him over two minutes to change into his iconic red suit, the man inevitably dies.

Ryan then used the opportunity to take a dig at Hugh’s Australian accent by saying ‘How the other guys do it so quickly, you probably wouldn’t be dead if it was Logan!’

And last December when Ryan revealed he would be getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Hugh jumped at the opportunity to get his own back at Ryan.

Hugh posted a video to Twitter using a giant cardboard cutout of Ryan’s head and mocked the American actor by saying: ‘Ryan Reynolds here…how could a guy, who failed his high school drama class be this talented? I have no answer for that.’
