Police are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a woman in a mosh pit at Listen Out music festival over the weekend.

Detectives say that a man with ginger hair tied up in a bun grabbed the victim by the waist and pulled her towards him.

He then grabbed her around the neck and sexually assaulted her before she managed to elbow him in the face and leave the area at the festival in St Kilda, Melbourne.

The incident happened at around 8pm at the main stage of the music festival.

The victim had been in the mosh pit when the man approached and started dancing behind her.

When she left the mosh pit, the victim located her friends and called police.

Police have described the offender as a white male with ginger-coloured hair and have released a facial composite in a bid to track him down.
