Ikea is ridiculed after customers notice a VERY obvious mistake on their $30 world map… so can you spot it?

  • The $30 BJORKSTA world map is being sold in a store in Washington DC
  • It has been ridiculed online because it has a glaring omission
  • In a rather embarrassing gaffe, the map fails to show New Zealand
  • Swedish company is in the midst of opening its first store in the country

Ikea has been mercilessly ridiculed for selling a map containing a very obvious mistake.

In a rather embarrassing gaffe for the Swedish furniture company, the $30 BJORKSTA world map fails to show New Zealand.

And, to exacerbate the mistake, the firm is in the midst of opening its first store in the country – having announced last month that Auckland would soon see the iconic yellow and blue building.

A photo of the map being sold in an Ikea store in Washington DC was posted to Reddit on Thursday.

In a rather embarrassing gaffe for the Swedish furniture company, the $30 BJORKSTA world map fails to show New Zealand (shown right, on a map)

The caption read: ‘Ikea’s map game is not on point.’

Understandably, the error has gone down badly with Kiwis, who feel their country is being ignored.

One person posted on Twitter: ‘What’s the deal Ikea with forgetting an entire country off the world maps you are selling? New Zealand exists!’

Another wrote: ‘Hopefully Ikea won’t be using their own map to find us when they open their first store in New Zealand’.

A third cheekily said: ‘To be fair to Ikea, it ain’t hard to forget about New Zealand.’

Reaction: Understandably, the error has gone down badly with Kiwis, who feel their country is being ignored

While one added: ‘Think Ikea need to add New Zealand to their map before the first store here opens.’

The inaccurate product is sold in both US and Australian stores and commentators questioned whether it would be stocked in the New Zealand one.

‘Wonder if they’re going to sell these maps in the new Auckland store,’ one online user wrote.

This not the first time New Zealand has been left off maps.

There is an entire Reddit thread dedicated to sharing photos of maps without New Zealand.

Last year, a member of Reddit pointed out an Ikea store which had a map on their wall missing the country out.

MailOnline has contacted representatives of Ikea for comment.
