Illegal Kuwaiti immigrant raped woman on Darlington river

CCTV footage of a Kuwaiti sex predator who claimed to be ‘Saddam Hussein’ shows the illegal immigrant moments after he raped a woman near a riverbank.

The video shows the sinister movements of Abdel-Aziz Al-Shamary just moments after he launched a brutal attack on a woman in Darlington.

Last week, the Kuwaiti national was jailed for 12 years for the sickening assault as a judge told him: ‘I hope you get deported’.

The 21-year-old had researched ‘outdoor sex’ before the attack, and upon his arrest he refused to speak to a female officer – calling England a ‘b**** country’.

On the day of the rape Al-Shamary had downed two bottles of whisky, Teeside Crown Court heard.

He fled after the attack, but was spotted by two passing motorists who went to the victim’s aid and alerted police.

CCTV released by police shows Al-Shamary running along St Cuthbert’s Way following the attack and onto a slip road behind the East Street multi-storey car park.

The footage then pick up him crossing the road, where drops his cola bottle. He can also be seen pulling up and adjusting his trousers.

He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was found guilty of rape after a trial.

Detective Constable Neil Stannard, from Darlington CID, said: ‘The CCTV was a crucial and vital piece of evidence that was invaluable to the prosecution case.

‘It helped the jury understand the geography of the town and movements of the victim, suspect and witnesses.

‘It helped us build up a detailed picture and timeline of what happened to the victim on the night of the attack.

‘The CCTV also provided us with strong evidence to challenge the offender throughout the course of the investigation.’

Following his arrest in the early hours of May 17, the part-time pizza worker refused to speak to female officers, saying in his homeland he would only speak to men.

He originally entered the UK illegally, living in Middlesbrough, and then moved to Darlington.

By the time of the attack he had been granted to leave remain by the Home Office.

During sentencing, Judge Morris told Al-Shamary: ‘It is quite clear that you had a sheltered upbringing in a Bedouin family with very little contact with the opposite sex.

‘The idea of having sex outdoors thrilled you as you can see from your pornographic downloads on your phone.

‘It is quite clear to me that you have a problem with females and you regard them as lesser beings.

‘I am of the view that this was as much about degradation and humiliation as it was about sexual pleasure.

‘You terrified her into submission. You were convicted on the convincing and palpably honest evidence of a brave young woman.

‘She is still crying every night and living every day with this burden in her mind. I sincerely hope that you will be deported at the half way point.’
