I’m A Celebrity: Dennis Wise’s jaw-dropping weight loss

Given their often restrictive diet in the I’m A Celebrity jungle, it’s no surprise that the celebrity campmates often leave looking considerably svelter than they did on their arrival.

And following reports this year’s camp have collectively lost SIX STONE between them already, Dennis Wise showcased his jaw-dropping weight loss as he became the sixth celebrity to leave the much-loved series on Thursday.

The former footballer, 50, looked significantly thinner in his camp attire, having been forced to live on a restrictive diet mainly comprising of rice and beans during his 21-day stint in the jungle.

This year’s celebrities had to endure extremely tough conditions, as their first few days in camp saw them go a lengthy period without winning much food. Dennis had to endure five days without a proper meal in camp, while his pal Jamie Lomas suffered nine in total.

His new diet has certainly taken its toll on the sports star, as Dennis showcased his shrinking frame while joining hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly in the studio, after being voted out by the public.

Speaking of his physique, following his time in the jungle, Dennis said: ‘I’ve shredded so much weight, people don’t realise the rations you get – I mean they are rations!

‘And if you miss a group of stars, and if you don’t get any, you go for a whole day all the way through to the next night and it’s not nice and it’s really hardcore.’

Concerned about the lack of food being presented in camp, Dennis insisted that is why he had been tough on comedian Iain Lee, when it came to his co-star putting himself forward for the Bushtucker Trials.

Iain had previously forfeited two trials, costing the camp their dinner on those occasions. Dennis, who had been accused of ‘bullying’ Iain due to his strong stance against him when it came to the challenges, argued that someone who is considered a ‘stronger option’ should have priority, as the camp’s main concern is eating at the end of the day.

The camp are given the opportunity to win treats in the show’s Dingo Dollar challenge too, but without regular supplies of processed foods, it’s no surprise they have been shedding the pounds.

So much so, that reports have revealed the camp have collectively lost a huge six stone between them so far. Each celebrity is weighed before and after their stay in the jungle, with the results of their weight loss often aired during I’m A Celebrity’s follow-up show once the series has wrapped.

A source told The Mirror: ‘You are starting to see a real difference in the likes of Jamie and Amir [Khan]. We estimate all 11 of them combined have shed around six stone.

‘It’s a huge diet change, but no one complains as for most it is the best detox diet.’

They added: ‘The celebrities lose the weight because they are eating healthy organic vegetables and meat, the body readily absorbs this so they make sure the meat is heavy in protein and the fruit and veg heavy in minerals, vitamins and glucose.’

Campmates are thought to lose around ’11 pounds’ each a series.

British actor Jamie hasn’t been shy about his noticeable weight loss as he was heard telling his fellow camp mates: ‘I’ve lost so much weight in here, which isn’t a bad thing. But the hunger, it really gets to you.’

Former politician Stanley Johnson, who was fifth to leave the show, credited his appearance on I’m A Celebrity for acting as a ‘wonderful form of gastric surgery’, as he insisted one of his favourite things about his experience had been ‘losing weight’.

Rebekah Vardy, meanwhile, told fans following her I’m A Celeb exit that she was ‘in pain’ after ignoring medic Bob’s advice and ‘over-eating’ when back in the real world.

Sharing a photo of her bloated stomach, Rebekah revealed she has lost a stone from her time in the jungle, as she penned: ‘I lost a stone in the jungle & then came out and ate everything in sight.

‘So now I’m in so much pain because I’m ridiculously bloated. Bob knows best, I should have stuck to his advice!’

While weeks of eating the bare minimum often sees campmates overindulge when they leave the jungle, it’s advised that they make a gradual return to their old eating habits in order to ease their metabolism back into a routine.

The lack of food in camp has provided some difficulty for this year’s stars, with the medical team having to step in, after many contestants experienced ‘dizzy spells’.

According to The Mirror, Medic Bob said: ‘I can’t mention it medically, but there’s been a couple that have had a few dizzy spells and we’ve given them some electrolyte drinks and some glucose.

‘They’re very hungry, really hungry. They’re very hungry at the moment, they haven’t done quite so well at the trials lately.

‘If you could see how much rice and beans they get per person, per day, I think you’d be quite shocked. The little bit of rice is quite tiny and the little bit of beans is quite tiny.’

While it had been previously reported that campmates have actually fainted over their hunger, a rep for the show told MailOnline: ‘Nobody has fainted in the jungle due to lack of food.’

Only five celebrities now remain in camp; Georgia, Jamie, Amir, Jenni and Iain following Dennis’ departure.
