‘We have sent show cause notices to Hardik Pandya and K.L. Rahul for their comments,’ Board of Control for Cricket in India told the Press Trust of India.

‘They have been given 24 hours to give an explanation.’

The comments involved Parndya bragging about his prowess with women, saying, ‘You are just watching and observing how they move… I have to see how they move first,’ he said.

He also told a story about an incident where he was out with his parents at a party and revealed to them about the woman he had previously had a ‘scene’ with.

‘And I actually had to tell them. This one. This one. This one,’ he said before revealing how he boasted to his parents about losing his virginity.

Parndya himself issued an apology over Twitter for the comments just hours beforehand.

‘After reflecting on my comments on Koffee with Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way. Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show,’ he wrote.

The scandal follows a political movement in Kerala, a state along the south western coast of India, on January 1 this year in which hundreds of thousands of woman formed a ‘woman’s wall’ that stretched 620km across the state.

Commoners, the upper class, and celebrities stood side by side in the movement that has been called a turning point for feminist politics in the region.
