International manhunt is launched after British man, 55, was shot in the head outside an Amsterdam cafe by ‘hitman from the UK in gang feud’

An international manhunt has been launched after a British man was shot in the head outside a cafe in Amsterdam. 

Police are hunting the gunman who they believe is also British after he opened fire on his victim in a busy street.

The 55-year-old victim, originally from Sale, Greater Manchester, was targeted on May 19 in what Dutch investigators believe was a gangland feud.

The man, who police have not named, remains in a stable condition in hospital.

He now lives in the Netherlands but also has connections to Merseyside and Cheshire.

The gunman had earlier been seen walking towards the premises in Amsterdam’s Stromarkt before he pulled out a handgun and fired at the victim.

He then caught a bicycle taxi in the direction of the Dam Square.

Despite a large-scale search the Dutch authorities have yet to trace the assailant and are now working closely with the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA).

Police have received CCTV images of the suspect who a witness described as speaking English with a North West accent, possibly Merseyside or Manchester.

Jayne Lloyd, NCA North West branch commander, said: ‘The attack took place in a public area. This man is clearly very dangerous which is why we need to identify him quickly and make sure he cannot harm anyone else.

‘Someone knows who this is and anyone with information about this man or his whereabouts should contact the NCA on 0370 496 7622 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Please do not approach this man as he is dangerous and call 999 in an emergency.’
