Everybody loves food that’s good value for money, which is why it’s more than a little irksome when shoppers are fooled by misleading packaging.
These photos reveal some of the most frustrating cases of packets that look as if they will contain more food than they do.
From pizzas with all the toppings in one place so it looks like it will be covered in ingredients when peering through the transparent window on the wrapper, to underfilled packets of crisps, these shocking examples of deceptive packaging will make your blood boil.
The snaps have all been shared on the subreddit forum, r/***hole design.
And they will make you much more careful about checking items before buying them to make sure that you are not being swindled.
This Tesco pizza looks as if it will be covered in pepperoni slices from the window on the front, but inside, it’s clear the factory worker has deliberately moved the slices to one side so it will look that way
If you bought this large drum of Chio Red Paprika chips – a US brand – you would expect them to be fill to the brim. But this customer was frustrated to find a bag hidden inside which was only half full
From the packaging, it looks as if the person buying this cheesy garlic bread from Basilio’s Italian-Style Pizza – a US supermarket pizza brand – will receive one that’s the length of the box it is in but the reality is much different
When you look at the sandwich from the outside, it looks like it will be stuffed with ham all the way through. But once opened, it’s clear the manufacturers have spread the ham unevenly so it fools shoppers
Waitrose have been sneaky with the packaging of this Halloumi and Red Pepper wrap as from the packet it looks as if customers are buying one long wrap. In reality, they will receive two mini ones
Aldi’s Brussels and Caramelised Shallots Pate uses the same trick as Waitrose as it looks as if customers will receive one giant slab of pate. In fact, they will receive two smaller pieces
From the outside, it looks as if customers will receive a pepperoni-covered Daily Chef pizza – a US supermarket pizza brand – that reaches all the way to the crust. But the manufacturers have only put on as much as they need to fool shoppers from the packaging’s exterior
This Polish Batonik chocolate muesli bar looks as if it will have more chocolate chunks from the small transparent window on the packaging. So this customers was shocked to find those chunks were the only pieces of chocolate in the whole bar (left). Another shopper was frustrated after finding that US brand Pop Secret sells two different sizes of popcorn in exactly the same size boxes so you can’t tell if you’re buying large or small bags (right)
This sushi tray cheekily has a lettuce leaf printed onto it as part of its design to make the shopper believe they are getting salad with their meal too
What a waste of packaging! This large bag of Indonesian Bumbu Betutu Bali crisps contains just one other, smaller, bag of crisps inside
If you bought this large bag of chocolate, you might expect it to be filled most of the way to the top. In reality, this customer received less than half a bag of the actual treats
