Jenna Bush Hager got emotional while recounting how she and her family celebrated her grandfather George H.W. Bush turning 94 years old — less than a week after they honored her late grandmother Barbara on what would have been her 93rd birthday.
The 36-year-old Today correspondent joined Carson Daly on the fourth hour of the morning show on Wednesday as they filled in for Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.
Jenna recounted how her family was with her grandfather at his compound in Kennebunkport, Maine on Tuesday, when he became the first former U.S. president to turn 94 years old.

Amazing moment: Jenna, 36, and her family were with her grandfather George H.W. Bush when he became the first former U.S. president to turn 94 years old on Tuesday
Paying tribute: On June 8, George H.W. and his family celebrated what would have been his late wife Barbara’s 93rd birthday. Jenna said they made her a cake and ‘it was special’
‘We were all together and its just really precious,’ she said. ‘We celebrated my Ganny’s birthday on the 8th. We were there to do that.’
A photo of George H.W. sitting in front of a cake that ‘Happy 93rd Birthday BPB’ written in icing appeared on the screen, and Jenna explained: ‘That’s her birthday cake that we made for her, and it was special.’
The former first lady passed away on April 17 at the age of 92, and Jenna got choked up while talking about the loss.
‘I think we all know how fast time can go and how you can lose people that are precious to you,’ she said, noting that her grandmother was close to 93 years old and had lived a long life.
Family: Jenna held her daughter Mila while posing for a photo with her parents, George W. and Laura Bush, and her husband, Henry Hager, who is holding their daughter Poppy
Making memories: ‘We were all together and its just really precious,’ she said of their time in Maine
Special moments: ‘Now, because he is older, every morning Mila will say, “I just want to go hold great gampy,”‘ she explained
‘To celebrate with him his greatest love was sweet and wonderful,’ Jenna said of spending Barbara’s birthday with her grandfather.
The mother-of-two went on to note that her five-year-old daughter, Mila, has started to realize that her time with her great-grandfather is precious.
‘Now, because he is older, every morning Mila will say, “I just want to go hold great gampy,”‘ she explained. ‘You make it happen while you can.’
Carson, 44, is just as family oriented, and Jenna revealed their kids are so close they think that they are related to each other.
All smiles: Jenna joined Carson Daly on the fourth hour of the Today show on Wednesday
Replacements: The two were filling in for Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford
‘We’ve hung out several times with our kids and the funny part is that Mila thinks the Daly children are her cousins,’ she said.
Carson and his wife, Siri Pinter, have three children, Jackson, nine, Etta, five, and London, three, while Jenna and her husband, Henry Hager, have Mila and their two-year-old daughter, Poppy.
Jenna said their kids’ bond is most apparent between Mila and Etta because they are so close in age, but she accidentally called Carson’s daughter Ella.
She caught the mistake after Carson called her Etta, but the friends quickly moved on from the slip-up.
‘The point is they do they think they are related,’ she said, and Carson pointed out that they look related too.

‘They look related, but I think it also speaks to how good of friends they are,’ Jenna added.
The two seemed to be having a great time co-hosting the show together, and at one point Carson said he would love to attend a wedding with Jenna.
‘I have this great move called the “bucking bronco,”‘ she bragged, but she admitted she didn’t think it was ‘appropriate’ for television.
However, Jenna quickly changed her mind, and, before Carson realized what was going on, she had the show’s social contributer Donna Farizan come on stage to help her demonstrate the move.
‘Donna get on all fours please,’ she said, before changing her mind for a second time.
Having a blast: Jenna also demonstrated her go-to wedding dance move — the ‘bucking bronco’ — noting that her twin sister Barbara (not pictured) is usually the horse
One-of-a-kind moves: She said she also likes rip off her jacket and stomp on it like it’s on fire
‘Actually, I’ll do it. I’ll be the horse. Usually, Barbara is the horse,’ she says of her twin sister.
‘Get on,’ she urges Donna. ‘Come on, its not dirty.’
Once she is settled on top of her back, Jenna walks her around the stage on all fours like a horse, prompting Donna to wave her arm above her head like she’s riding a bull.
Jenna then lifts her body up in the air as if she is trying to buck Donna off her, explaining: ‘That’s my dance move I do at weddings.’
‘Whats happening here is? Is everybody okay?’ Carson jokes, but Jenna doesn’t stop there.
‘The other move I like is to take off her jacket and pretend its on fire,’ she says while ripping off Donna’s jean jacket and tossing it on the floor to stomp on it.
‘Oh my gosh, these are your dance moves?’ Carson asks. ‘Wow. I don’t know about that. ‘
