Jessica Chastain and Jimmy Kimmel in gender swap skit

The gender gap is a hot topic in Hollywood at the moment.

And it extends to more than pay as Jessica Chastain proved when she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday.

The 40-year-old Oscar-nominated actress and the host, 43, swapped genders to read fictional scenes as she attempted to prove how underwritten typical female roles are.

Speaking out: Jessica Chastain appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday when she showed the host that the Hollywood gender gap extends to more than pay

In the first, a romantic comedy, Jessica explained: ‘We’ve just bumped into one another on the street.’

Then she launched into a long speech in which Jimmy got to say 10 words before she cut him off and continued spouting.

At the end she asked Jimmy: ‘So that’s the first one, How’d it feel?’

He replied: ‘Not so great, I barely got to speak there but I tried my hardest.’

Things were actually worse in the action scene in which Jimmy and Jessica were running from the bad guys.

As they pretended to hide, she explained her plan for their escape – and the host didn’t get to say anything at all.

In the sci-fi scene, which he initially fluffed, he got to offer a lot of weapons-based advice that Jessica, as the male, rejected out of hand.

‘Okay, I see your point,’ Jimmy said at the end of the skit, referring viewers to timesupnow.com for more info on the campaign.

Jessica also shared some of the Saturday Night Live hosting advice she got from pals Gal Gadot and Amy Schumer.

The star is due to debut on the show on Saturday and on Wednesday she shared a fun Instagram skit from the familiar set as Kate McKinnon challenged her right to be there.

You’ll have to watch SNL to see how it pans out.
