Jessica Mauboy representing Australia at Eurovision

She’ll be following in the footsteps of Guy Sebastian and Dami Im.

But Jessica Mauboy plans on making her own mark at Eurovision’s song contest as she is chosen to represent Australia on the international stage.

The Can I Get A Moment singer was selected as a wildcard entrant after Europeans witnessed her impressive range during a halftime performance in 2014, it was revealed on Monday.

The songstress belted out Sea of Flags in 2014 to an audience of 125 million, but Australia wasn’t officially invited to participate at Eurovision until 2015.

And that privilege went to her Australian Idol friend, Guy Sebastian.

The following year Dami Im placed second and in 2017 X Factor contestant Isaiah Firebrace finished in the top ten.

‘Hell yeah, I was jealous,’ she told News.com.au.

‘Of course I was rooting for them and they all did so great. But I wanted to be on that stage; I wondered if I could crash it.’

Head of Delegation Paul Clarke admitted SBS, who has broadcast the event for 33 years, wanted to give Jessica a chance at competing.

‘Jessica Mauboy’s performance at ESC Copenhagen 2014 opened the door for Australia to compete at Eurovision — before the great moments of Guy, Dami and Isaiah there was Jess, who touched the hearts of the Eurovision directors and proved just how talented our vocalists are,’ News.com.au reported.

‘We can’t wait to develop a great song and stage production with Jessica and her team, and recreate her Eurovision-style as a galactic soul diva.’

The 28-year-old will co-write Australia’s entrance song and hopes to tell her ‘own story from the heart’ through the lyrics.
