England’s travails in the third Test against India were compounded when Jonny Bairstow had to leave the field after taking a painful blow to the left hand.

The ball wobbled after the stumps in the morning session at Trent Bridge as the England wicketkeeper went to gather a delivery from James Anderson.

Jos Buttler, who had just dropped a tough chance at second slip to reprieve Pujara on 40, took the gloves instead.

The update on Bairstow’s injury was that it was to his left middle finger, and he was sent for an X-ray.
