Judge shares fortune cookie reading one day before Harvey

Waller County, Texas judge Trey Duhon posted an unusual and haunting picture to social media Wednesday which showed the fortune telling he received hours before Hurricane Harvey swept the Texas coast.

Duhon took to his Facebook page to share a story from the spooky incident that happened last Thursday, after waiting until the brunt of storms passed.

He wrote in the post: ‘TRUE STORY (I SWEAR) … If I would have posted this when it happened, it would have freaked some people out. I know some people are very superstitious (ok ok – I’m a little superstitious myself).

'Ok, I think I can talk about this now that Harvey has passed... If I would have posted this when it happened, it would have freaked some people out,' he wrote to his Facebook page

‘So, last Thursday Brian Cantrell and myself were setting up the Waller County Emergency Operation Center in preparation for Harvey. After the state operation center conference call, we went to lunch with Sheriff Smith and Texas Ranger Jeff McShane.

‘We ate at the Chinese restaurant in Hempstead on Bus. 290. They brought the check and a bunch of fortune cookies that the Sheriff threw out on the table… I grabbed one, opened it and after reading the fortune I looked at everyone else at the table and I asked, ‘Is this a joke?’

He continued: ‘Everyone just stared at me. I repeated ‘Seriously, is this a joke??’ Again everyone look at me bewildered.’

The fortune read: ‘Boats and water are in your future.’

Duhon admitted the words have spooked him ever since.

‘I interpreted it to be an ominous warning. Especially with Harvey just off the coast of Texas,’ he said. ‘I mean, that’s a very specific fortune, am I right??

‘Needless to say … for this event, I left the high water rescues to the experts and I stayed in the command center at the courthouse. I love boats and water but not during a hurricane or tropical storm … And that’s all a true story!!!’

The post received a variety of reactions — mostly from users who felt ‘wowed’ and agreed the specific reading at that specific point in time was eerie.

‘Wow! Well they really were. I saw many posts where you were mentioning needing boats in the high water,’ one person wrote in the comments.

‘You may have not been in them directly but you were requesting them and commanding them. Maybe you need to go on a cruise to relax after this is all over.’

A few others commented with lines inquiring about the numbers on the back of the paper following craze of the Powerball prize last week.

‘No more fortune cookies for you … Make sure you play those numbers,’ one said.

Another added: ‘Play lottery numbers on back and update us tomorrow, please.’
