Katharine McPhee makes Broadway debut in Waitress

Katharine McPhee has realized a childhood dream and made her Broadway debut.

The American idol alum, 34, opened in the starring role in the musical Waitress on Tuesday night on the great White Way.

The pretty singer beamed with pride as she took her curtain call after being presented with a big bouquet of flowers at the end of her first performance.

She did it: Katharine McPhee has realized a childhood dream and made her Broadway debut in the musical Waitress on Tuesday night

Based on the 2007 film and with a book by Jessie Nelson, Waitress, according to Playbill.com,  tells the story of a Southern diner employee who dreams of escaping her abusive marriage by channeling her passions into her inventive pies — and an affair with a new-to-town doctor.

McPhee stepped into the role of Jenna, taking over from understudy Stephanie Torns who was filling in after Sara Bareilles took her final bow last month.

The singer is scheduled to star in the role until June 17.

McPhee took to Instagram on Monday to share how excited she was to finally appear on a Broadway stage.

‘Swipe to see the little girl who always dreamed about tomorrow. She makes her broadway (sic0 debut in a starring role,’ wrote Katharine as she shared a snap of herself in her Waitress costume and another one of her as a little girl.

She continued: ‘This has been one of my biggest dreams since as early as I can remember…’

She recently spoke about the role, saying how much she connected with the central character.

‘There are so many themes in the show that I connect to on a really deep, personal level: Being in relationships you’re not meant to be in, the feeling of not wanting to be a mother, wanting to be a mother. It has comedy, and heart, and darkness, and sadness, and hope,’ she explained to Playbill.

One person that might frequent the Waitress audience is Katharine’s beau, David Foster.

The loved-up pair went public with their relationship last year, despite their 34 year age difference, and have been inseparable ever since.

The two were spotted on a casual stroll with their dogs on Friday.

Katharine can also be seen as office manager Paige Dineen in the fourth season of the tech-action-drama Scorpion, which currently airs on CBS.
