Keeva Stewart prays parents will be reunited in heaven

A 10-year-old whose parents died of cancer just weeks apart prayed they would be reunited in heaven as mourners wiped away their tears at her mother’s funeral.

Karen Stewart, 36, died after her third battle with cancer on Friday, having first been diagnosed when she was just 18.

Her husband Ed passed away aged 42 in August – three months after he was given a terminal cancer diagnosis and not long after his wife’s devastating news.

At Mrs Stewart’s funeral in Dublin today the couple’s daughter Keeva, 10, prayed her mother and father could now enjoy ‘eternal life’ together.

She, her eight-year-old brother Finn, and four-year-old sister Erin were left orphaned after their mother’s death last week.

Hundreds turned out to remember the popular mother-of-three at her funeral Mass at the Church of Our Lady Immaculate in Darndale in Dublin.

Mrs Stewart’s aunt Gina paid tribute to her niece who she said ‘struggled with cancer since the age of 19’ and was given her final prognosis in January.

She said her niece had battled cancer with huge ‘determination’ and ‘strength’ and had done everything possible for her kids, who she loved dearly.

‘Ed probably thought he was going to get a break up there but Karen probably has him running around right now.’

She also expressed gratitude on behalf of Karen and the family to the local community.

She said: ‘The support has been overwhelming and Karen wants to express her gratitude to an amazing community for all the support given and all the fundraising efforts.’

The three children will now move in with their father’s brother Vincent and his wife Tanya, along with their three children.

After the funeral Mass, Mrs remains were taken to Fingal Cemetery for burial.

Mrs Stewart’s friend Stacey Hogg set up a GoFundMe page to help the couple make memories with their family while they still could.
