Lara Trump touts father-in-law’s summit with Kim Jong-un at campaign rally

Lara Trump talked up her father-in-law’s meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un – and accused people of being ‘hysterical’ about the explosive issue of child immigrants being separated from their parents.

Speaking to warm up a Trump campaign rally in Duluth, Lara Trump touted the summit while speaking beneath a banner that said ‘Promises Kept.’

‘It was just last week that we saw history happen. Donald Trump is the first president to ever meet with the leader of North Korea,’ she said. ‘This is historic,’ she told a crowd, to cheers about Trump’s Singapore summit.

‘And yet what is the only thing you hear if you turn on the television today or open the newspaper today? You hear about people coming into our country illegally, breaking our laws and paying the consequences for it right?’ she said sarcastically.

Then she referenced the child separation issue – just hours after the president did a 180 amid an outcry and signed an executive order stating that illegal immigrants would be incarcerated indefinitely along with their children when possible.

‘People are hysterical about it the media is going crazy about it,’ she told the crowd.

‘The craziest part is that this has been going on for years and years and years,’ she said, pointing to President Barack Obama, whose administration also separated children from their parents.

‘Where was the uproar? Where were the Democrats calling him out to do something to change it?’ she asked.

‘Sort of makes you wonder what the heck is going on out there doesn’t it?’ she continued. ‘The Democrats are desperate. ‘

Rally attendees also were treated to a ‘real news’ presentation where Lara, who is married to Eric Trump and has a formal role with the Trump campaign, talked up the Kim Jong-un meeting.

‘They said that by talking with Kim Jong-un, Donald Trump was going to start World War III,’ she said in the in-house broadcast, countering a mainstream narrative that Kim got a summit he sought without making tangible concessions.

‘And yet here we are on the cusp of a de-nuclearized Korean peninsula,’ she said. ‘They won’t try and stop a loser but they will try and stop a winner,’ she concluded.

President Trump also hailed his recent summit with Kim Jong-un, earning applause from the crowd for meeting with a despot he once himself mocked as ‘rocket man.’

‘I just got back as you know from Singapore, where I met Kim Jong-un. Where we had a great meeting – great chemistry, we got along really well,’ Trump said.

Trump then listed what he described as a series of concessions by North Korea.

‘They said the president gave away so much, he met with them. I said, what am I supposed to do? Had to meet, right?’ Trump told the crowd.

‘A total de-nuclearization. We got back our hostages. We got back our great fallen heroes the remains. And today already 200 have been sent back,’ Trump claimed.

‘They stopped shooting missiles over Japan. They stopped all nuclear testing. They stopped nuclear research. They stopped rocketry. They stopped everything that we’d want them to stop,’ he continued.
