US basketball superstar LeBron James stunned medical staff by reportedly gaining seven pounds during a championship game

Basketball superstar LeBron James stunned medical staff by reportedly gaining seven pounds during a championship game.

The 33-year-old is said to have put on the astonishing amount of weight during an Eastern Conference Finals appearance with the Miami Heat.

James’ teammates were left aghast when they saw he had gone from 271 to 278 pounds, it is claimed.

The NBA legend just shrugged when asked about his strange weight gain and said it was ‘weird as hell’, ESPN reported.

Constant sweating and running around during a game would strike most as being a recipe for losing weight rather than putting it on.

And experts were also left baffled by the report.

Marie Spano is a sports nutritionist for the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves.

She told SB Nation: ‘There is no way he gained 7 pounds during the game.’

The Cleveland Cavaliers star, standing at 6ft 8, is well known for his ability to stay healthy.

Since entering the NBA in 2003, James has never played fewer than 60 games in a season.

Though he suffered back problems in 2015, some say he is currently in the best shape of his career.
