Lisa Wilkinson excited to make her debut on The Project

She’s gearing up to make her debut on The Project next Sunday following her shock departure from Today amid pay parity dispute rumours.

And Lisa Wilkinson, 58, has made it clear that she’s happy to leave her Nine colleagues in the dust as she settles into life as a Channel 10 personality.

Speaking to Confidential this Saturday, Lisa appeared to take a veiled swipe at former Today co-host Karl Stefanovic when she praised Waleed Aly for his journalistic acumen.

The Project here we come! Lisa Wilkinson, 58, has made it clear that she’s happy to leave her Nine colleagues in the dust as she settles into life as a Channel 10 personality

‘I’m so looking forward to working with Waleed (Aly), who, in terms of dissecting issues that truly matter, is the best in the business,’ she gushed to the publication about The Project star.

Fans may remember breakfast TV host Karl’s previous attempts at reporting on harder news stories, having famously fronted ratings nightmare The Verdict in 2015.

The ill-fated panel program was poised to compete with the likes of ABC’s Q&A, but lasted just one season before it was axed.

Meanwhile, Lisa has been looking forward to basking in the ratings success of The Project, which has been a success with younger audiences in recent years.

Gushing over co-host Carrie Bickmore, Lisa told Confidential that the blonde reporter has been a great friend and that she admires both her on-screen work as well as her commitment to raising brain cancer awareness.

The seasoned journalist also raved about comedian Peter Helliar, saying: ‘You can’t help but adore, and (he) bloody well does deserve to get the Gold Logie this year.’

This comes after questions were raised about her appeal to the younger audiences who tune in to watch The Project, in a recent report by The Herald Sun.

Media analyst Steve Allan told the publication: ‘Today and The Sunday Project have vastly different audiences, and I see little chance of changing that.’

‘So yes, the challenge is huge as reinvention is definitely required. But so too Ten know they need to change and to offer something different,’ he continued.

‘I think the whole Sunday Project is an odd place to start. In my view, it will be nearly impossible to break through in any meaningful way,’ he added.

Lisa reportedly secured a $2.3 million salary to front The Sunday Project on weekends and helm the new digital site Ten Daily for Channel 10.

A statement from Channel Nine said the network was ‘unable to meet the expectations of Lisa Wilkinson and her manager on a contract renewal’.
