Lizard captured from underneath a bed in Sunshine Coast

A family have watched on in shock as a massive lizard was pulled from underneath a child’s bed in their Sunshine Coast home.

Snake catcher Stuart McKenzie was called out to the home on Wednesday after reports of a ‘legged reptile’ harassing chickens in the family’s yard.

But the reptile made its way inside and into a child’s bedroom after the homeowner attempted to scare it off.

The moment Mr McKenzie entered the room and wrangled the 1.5-metre reptile was caught on camera.

In the video, he is seen down on his hands and knees, checking underneath the child’s bed for the giant reptile.

After locating it, he jumps on top of the bed with a snake-catching hook in hand and moves to the corner of the room.

He shifts some pillows with the hook but decides to put it down and take a bare-hands approach instead.

‘Yeah he’s massive, he’s one big goanna. He’s been eating lots of eggs for a long time,’ the homeowner says, as Mr McKenzie prepares to grab the creature.

He then bends down and firmly grasps the goanna, as it writhes in his hands and flicks its tail.

But Mr McKenzie holds firm and traps the reptile’s tail in between his legs to stop it from moving.

‘He’s probably at least 1.5 metres, he’s got a big fat belly too,’ he says while showcasing the catch.
