The film, which will be Day-Lewis’ last hurrah, has already been released in America, has received rave reviews and earned two Golden Globe nominations.

The property oozes glamour and is the perfectly shows off the 1950s charm of the film – the house’s sweeping spiral staircase topped by a domed skylight feature prominently in the film and the parquet floors and towering sash windows perfectly complement the elegant gowns.

Outside the Ionic columns are visible on screen every time a vintage chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce pulls up to Woodcock’s door.

But it is not just its film credentials that make the property desirable – Fitzroy Square was designed by revered neoclassical architect Robert Adam in the 1790s and the square is a conservation area.

Estate agents Knight Frank say this house is in the most enviable position on the square on the central axis of the east side.

It has lots of beautiful architectural features, such as the Portland stone façade and vaulted cantilevered stone staircase with iron balusters.

There is an adjoining mews house with a garage for two cars which was previously granted planning permission in 2011 for demolition of the old mews house and construction of a new three-storey house with a sub basement below the main house and mews to include a swimming pool and further living space.

The film is a great advert for the property but the owners have not lived in it for ten years and the rooms are empty now that the film crews have gone.

It is in need of a makeover, which Christian Lock-Necrews from Knight Frank says would cost about £5m and take two years.

The mansion was on the market in 2016 but was taken off for the film shoot, which took place in the first four months of 2017.

Mr Lock-Necrews said: ‘It is little surprise that this house was such a perfect fit for the film.

‘The same striking features that will look so impressive on screen are what make it such a magnificent family home.

‘In addition to owning one of London’s preeminent examples of a classically elegant Georgian townhouse, prospective buyers will now have the added prestige of living in the former ‘house’ of a Hollywood legend.’
