Lorde considers herself an underdog

She achieved international fame at just 16 years of age, with her debut single Royals.

And despite the hit reaching number one on the US and UK charts, Lorde, revealed on Sunday’s 60 Minutes that she still considers herself an ‘underdog’.

When talk came to making a new album, the 20-year-old humbly told Allison Langdon: ‘I’m just the underdog again.’

‘I’m just the underdog again. I always think, like making an album, I’m just that kid to and from work, sitting on the train,’ Lorde, real name Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor explained.

Taken aback by the label, Allison quizzed the singer-songwriter: ‘The word underdog. It’s interesting that you use (it). Why?’

‘I totally feel like an underdog. But, I think one record is cool, one record, you know? I think everyone can make five amazing records, if you can, then it gets interesting.

‘That’s when it starts. So, I think, until then, (I consider) myself as an underdog,’ the brunette continued.

‘It’s pretty gnarly, I think it’s pretty hard across the board,’ the singer-songwriter admitted.

‘I think it’s definitely for a long time that I’m going to remember, it’s been really formative for me,’ Lorde continued.

And with the personality’s highly-anticipated second album due for release on June 16, it could be possible to hear Lorde open up on the split in the lyrics.
