Man, 24, repeatedly tasered by police and dragged off a bus was allegedly ‘high on ice’

A commuter who was repeatedly tasered by police officers while on a crowded Sydney bus has been charged after other passengers were allegedly assaulted. 

At 2.30pm yesterday a bus pulled up and signaled for assistance from police officers who were conducting random breath testing on Anzac Parade in Moore Park. 

Police were informed that the man, reportedly high on ice and acting aggressive, had allegedly harassed and assaulted two other male passengers on the bus.

The 24-year-old man has been charged with two counts of resisting an officer in execution of duty, assault of an officer in execution of duty, common assault and behaving in an offensive manner in or near a public place.

He has been denied bail and will appear in the Central Local Court on Friday. 

News.com.au have also revealed the man has allegedly had 250 brushes with the law, including threatening police in the past. 

It is also alleged he was heavily affected by the drug ice during the incident on the bus. 

The man was sitting about half way down a bus near Moore Park, south east of Sydney, Thursday afternoon when officers boarded the vehicle.

Footage showed the 37-year-old extended an arm towards one of the officers before being thrown back against the glass window from the force of the taser.

‘At 2.30pm officers from Surry Hills Command were conducting a stationary RBT on Anzac Parade at Moore Park,’ a police spokesman said.

‘A bus stopped nearby and the driver signalled for assistance. Police were told a man had allegedly assaulted two other bus passengers.’

During the heated confrontation, one officer leans over the chair in front in attempt to restrain the man, who had just been stunned.

The other approached from the side and discharged another bolt, before the man scrabbled along the floor and out the bus’s middle set of doors.

He appeared to have been zapped again once outside, as he fell to the ground face-first.

The alleged offender reportedly refused to co-operate with police and resisted arrest, eventually being taken to Surry Hills police station.

No one was injured in the arrest.
