A man has had his finger sliced off after a vicious machete attack in his own home.

Police were called to a home in Sydney’s Carramar about 5.20am today, where the man was being treated by paramedics.

The 43-year-old man was reportedly attacked in his unit by a man armed with a machete.

He lost a finger in the assault, he also has a severe injury to his left arm and extensive cuts to other parts of his body.

The man’s injuries are serious, but not life-threatening, police said.

The man is in a serious but stable condition in Liverpool Hospital.

A crime scene has been established and police are now searching for the attacker.

It is believed the men are known to each other and this is being treated as a targeted attack.
