Man, 53, charged with murder of Karen Ristevski

Borce Ristevski, the husband of Melbourne mother Karen Ristevski, has been charged with her murder.

Victoria Police issued a dramatic statement on Wednesday morning revealing an Avondale Heights man, 53, was arrested by detectives at 7.20am.

Mr Ristevski has been charged with one count of murder and will appear before Melbourne Magistrate’s Court this morning.

The businessman has long been considered a suspect in his wife’s disappearance.

Mrs Ristevski, 47, went missing from her Oakley Drive home on the morning of 29 June, 2016.

Her body was discovered wedged between two logs in Mt Macedon National Park on February 20.

Ms Ristevski’s husband was previously named as a suspect in the woman’s murder, by police and his lawyer, Robert Stary, though he has vehemently denied any involvement.

The charge being laid comes about 18 months after Mrs Ristevski first went missing.

Mr Ristevski told police he and his wife had gotten into an argument about money before she left the home on June 29.

Afterwards, Mr Ristevski claimed he drove her car to fix the fuel gauge.

But for almost 100 minutes of the day, Mr Ristevski was unable to tell police what he had been doing.

Police released CCTV footage earlier this year of a black Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 coupe being driven towards Mt Macedon on the day Ms Ristevski disappeared.

Using an identical model to the Mercedes, detectives recreated the route they think Ms Ristevski’s murderer took to Mt Macedon.
