A man who died outside outside a Woolworths store was reportedly covered over by a sheet and left there for four hours while shoppers continued to walk past.

The indigenous man went into the Cavenagh St shopping centre in Darwin on April 11 because he wasn’t feeling well and wanted to be in the air conditioning.

However witnesses say he had been lying on the floor of the shopping centre when staff asked him to move outside, NT News reported.

It’s believed that shortly after he removed himself, he collapsed and died outside.

The sister of the man who died told ABC Radio Darwin the response of shopping centre security and police on the day lacked dignity

His body was then left under a white sheet for four hours before being taken away by an ambulance.

The man’s sister Marie Mankara has spoken out, telling ABC Radio Darwin that his skin colour may have been a factor in the poor treatment, saying it lacked dignity.

‘Dare I say had that of been a white body lying there I think there would have been different procedures that would have taken place,’ she said.

Ms Mankara said her brother was feeling dizzy and sought air conditioning where he could cool down, but he was ‘turfed outside’.
