Man in standoff at hotel after killing wife at Texas church

BREAKING NEWS: Texas father, 62, in stand-off with police at a hotel hours after shooting dead his estranged wife and injuring their daughter, 31, by firing shots into their car in a church parking lot

A 62-year-old man is in a standoff with police at a hotel in Texas after shooting dead his estranged wife and injuring their adult daughter in a church parking lot.

Police in Houston say Arthur Edigin is holed up inside the Extended Stay America hotel.

SWAT teams and negotiators descended on the scene on Friday morning to try to coax him out.

Edigin is accused of murdering his wife as she sat in her car in the parking lot of the Christ the Redeemer Church in Cypress at 7pm on Thursday.

He shot into the car multiple times, fatally wounding his wife and injuring his estranged, 31-year-old daughter.

A child who was in the back of the car was unharmed.

It is not clear what drove him to commit the killings.

The church was put on lockdown with around 100 worshipers inside immediately after the shooting.

Edigin fled and it was not until police received a tip that he had checked into the motel that they located him.

He is in a room on the third floor of the hotel and is believed to be armed and dangerous.

The hotel has been evacuated while police try to get him out.
