Man is desperate to remove stone of loose skin

A man who has halved his body weight by ditching booze and sugar is desperately trying to raise money to get rid of er a stone of saggy skin after ditching sugar and booze and halving his body weight.

Paul Watling, 34, from Manchester weighed 30 stone at his heaviest but now tips the scales at around 16, after quitting sugar and alcohol and following a lean, protein rich diet.

But he must now raise almost £10,000 to fund private surgery to remove unsightly lose skin he’s been left with after his dramatic weight loss.

‘The only downside is that I’ve been left with lots of excess skin,’ Paul said. ‘When I look at myself in the mirror I feel ashamed of how I look and that skin is a reminder of the man I was 12 months ago.’

Paul is now 16 stone, but has been left with pouches of of saggy skin around his stomach, chest, thighs and arms, which weighs more than a stone.

Before slimming down, Paul would consume around 5,500 calories a day, including bottles of wine and ale as well as sweets, pizza, loaves of buttery toast and chocolate bars.

But after a chat with a friend who had lost a lot of weight, Paul and his girlfriend Charlotte decided to overhaul their lifestyle.

Paul said: ‘My weight has always been a problem. At 21 years old I was 30 stone and doctors found a tumour on my lung. I was too fat for them to operate so they gave me a gastric bypass.

‘The weight dropped off but after a couple of years the effects of the bypass began to wear off and the pounds crept back on’

Paul’s diet before

Breakfast: Half a loaf of bread with butter.

Lunch: Meal deal with an extra sandwich and a chocolate bar

Dinner: 14-inch pizza with two or three bottles of wine.

Breakfast:  Tuna salad and sweet potato or omelette, made with up to 10 eggs.

Lunch: Eggs, tuna and vegetables

Dinner:  Lean chicken breasts from Musclefood.com with wholegrain rice

Last December his weight was back at 26 stone, and he knew it wouldn’t take long for it to creep up to 30 again.

‘I bumped into a friend in the pub who had gone from being overweight to a trim powerlifter,’ Paul recalled.

‘He told me all about healthy food choices and how to change my lifestyle. I went home that night, and with Charlotte’s help, emptied the cupboards of everything unhealthy.’

After overhauling his diet, Paul lost a stone in two weeks and the pounds have dropped off consistently since last year

Paul began to stock up on lean meats from Musclefood.com as well as vegetables and began to see a difference almost straight away.

In the first two weeks, Paul managed to lose a stone and weight has dropped off consistently since then.

‘My diet now is unrecognisable to what it was 12 months ago,’ he said. Then I’d eat buttery toast for breakfast – I could easily get through a loaf in a day and would opt for a meal deal for lunch with an extra sandwich and chocolate bar.

Despite his success at losing weight, Paul admitted he feel 'ashamed' when he looks in the mirror

‘Dinner would be a 14-inch pizza washed down with two or three bottles of wine. I was easily eating between 4,000 and 5,500 calories a day.

‘Now, I’m eating around 2,000 calories a day but am eating more.

‘I’m now working hard to raise the £9,500 I need for the surgery – once it’s happened I’ll feel like I’ve finished the job.’
