Man strips off outside a pub before launching punches that left victim with a broken jaw

A clash between two groups of drunken pub-goers ended with one man stripping down to his underwear and breaking a stranger’s jaw with a flurry of punches.

CCTV cameras captured the wild scenes, which unfolded on May 24 last year outside the Grand Hotel in Wollongong, south of Sydney.

Violence erupted after a dispute outside the nightspot, which resulted in two men -Ethan Stewart-Hoare and Brett Durney – coming to blows.

As the pair shaped up, Stewart-Hoare’s friend Austin Sullivan, 27, removed his jumper and tried to enter the melee but was stopped by Durney’s mate, Thomas Jurkiewicz.

A kick from Durney then knocked Stewart-Hoare to the ground, where he lay motionless next to the kerb.

After Jurkiewicz and his brother Edward told Durney to leave, Sullivan pursued the pair, followed by pub security guards.

‘You killed my mate, he’s dead there you f***ing dogs,’ Sullivan yelled at the brothers as they fled down Burelli Street towards MacCabe Park, the Illawarra Mercury reported.

While in pursuit, Sullivan stripped down to his socks and underwear, and joined by a friend, caught up with the other two men in the park.

Sullivan’s friend then grabbed Thomas Jurkiewicz in a headlock and Sullivan launched a flurry of punches at the bearded man’s face, breaking his jawbone.

The four men then ran back to the Grand Hotel, where Stewart-Hoare remained unconscious on the ground.

Stewart-Hoare was rushed to hospital and he made a full recovery from non-serious injuries.

Jurkiewicz was forced to undergo surgery on his fractured jaw.

Sullivan pleaded guilty to recklessly causing grievous bodily harm in Wollongong Local Court on Friday.

He was given an 18-month jail sentence with a non-parole period of nine months.

Durney pleaded guilty in June to assault occasioning actual bodily harm for the attack on Stewart Hoare. He was given a 12-month suspended sentence.
