BREAKING NEWS: Man to face court after a 12-year-old girl is raped in a remote Northern Territory town
- A 35-year-old man was arrested in Ngukurr, eight hours south-east of Darwin
- He will appear before the Katherine Local Court to answer for alleged crime
- It comes after a two-year-old girl was raped and given HIV in Tenant Creek
A man has been accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in a remote Northern Territory town.
The 35-year-old was arrested in Ngukurr, eight hours south-east of Darwin.
A police spokesman said: ‘Northern Territory Police have charged a 35-year-old man with one count of sexual intercourse without consent.

‘He will appear before the Katherine Local Court today, Monday July 16, 2018.’
It comes after a two-year-old girl was raped and given HIV in Tenant Creek in February.
In May, police dropped charges against a man accused of the crime after new evidence led to another man.
The 24-year-old man was arrested in February over the shocking incident in which the toddler was left with ‘significant and painful’ injuries.
He was then released and a 25-year-old man faced Alice Springs Court charged with sexual intercourse without consent.

He was remanded in custody to face court again on July 26,
The two-year-old girl had to be transferred to Alice Springs and then the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital for surgery and a blood transfusion.
The child tested positive for a sexually transmitted disease and was provided with post-exposure HIV medication.
