On Wednesday night, Neymar hobbled off after an hour of PSG’s French Cup win over Strasbourg.

PSG confirmed he has injured the same metatarsal in his right foot that nearly forced him out of last summer’s World Cup, making him a major doubt for next month’s Champions League clash.

Manager Thomas Tuchel was left furious with the referee for not protecting the world’s most expensive footballer.

But on Twitter United fans greeted the news of his injury with glee. ‘Easy W incoming against PSG,’ one joked. ‘We’re winning the UCL,’ another said.

One user shared a GIF of Michael Scott from the US version of The Office, showing the regional manager screaming in panic: ‘Oh my God! It’s Happening!’

Another joked that the ‘Treble (was) still on’, 20 years on from United’s historic season of 1998-99.
