Man United stars in high spirits ahead of Benfica clash

Manchester United stars were in high spirits on Monday as they trained on the eve of their Champions League clash with Benfica at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho’s men have won their opening three Group A matches and can qualify for the knockout stages of the competition if they better CSKA Moscow’s result against Basle.

And it comes as no surprise that the Red Devils were in a relaxed mood as they were put through their paces at the club’s Carrington training base.

Despite coming under scrutiny recently after a run of five matches without a goal, Romelu Lukaku still appeared to be loving life and sharing jokes with his United team-mates.

Spanish duo David de Gea and Juan Mata were pictured sharing a laugh with each other in the frosty Manchester conditions while United players enjoyed taking part in an unfamiliar drill on Monday.

Mourinho’s men, who beat Tottenham 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, attempted to keep the ball in the air while all holding hands with each other.

United legend Andy Cole also popped along to United’s headquarters on Monday as the former striker took to Instagram to post a photo of himself posing alongside Lukaku and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

United will be confident of picking up their fourth group win on Tuesday as they come up against a Benfica side that have yet to pick up a point in the Champions League.

The Premier League outfit beat Benfica 1-0 last time out in the competition but Eric Bailly has called on his team-mates not to underestimate the Portuguese side.

The Ivorian said: ‘For me, they are a good team. The bad thing for them is they’re not in such a good moment but that doesn’t mean they’ll just roll over for us tomorrow. We have to be cautious and get our fourth win.

‘It’s something very important. First that we win. It’s an important game, this is our fourth in the Champions League and it’s at home, and since we started we’ve not lost a single game at home.

‘This is important for your confidence. I hope tomorrow’s game everything goes well and we win and qualify.’
