Man Utd ‘deserved’ to lose vs Huddersfield – Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho accused his Manchester United side of lacking ’emotion, aggression, intensity (and) desire’ during their ‘deserved’ defeat by Huddersfield.

The newly-promoted Terriers secured their first victory over United since 1952 thanks to first-half goals from Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre.

After the final whistle, Mourinho was full of praise for the home side and suggested his own team’s performance merited nothing more than a defeat.

‘We deserved it. The team that wanted to work more, wanted to compete more, wanted to be more aggressive won. So when the best team wins (there is) nothing to say,’ the United manager said.

‘I’m not going to be a critic with my players with you. I have to analyse with them and if I want to be a critic, (I will) be a critic with them. I just want to be as honest and pragmatic as possible and say that for me the best team won.

‘I was not expecting that, but it was the reality of the game. The team that started with emotion, aggression, intensity, desire, the team that was playing the game of their lives was the team that won. So we didn’t deserve more.’

Despite Marcus Rashford’s late goal, United now trail league leaders and rivals Manchester City by five points after Pep Guardiola’s side beat Burnley 3-0 at the Etihad.

Mourinho’s side now face a trip to Swansea in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday before a clash with Tottenham in the Premier League next weekend.
