Anthony Joshua retained his world heavyweight titles by overcoming Alexander Povetkin, and there were a host of famous faces scattered in amongst the 80,000 crowd at Wembley. 

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy witnessed Joshua maintain his status as IBF, WBO and WBA champion.

Mendy accompanied a picture of himself posing with Joshua’s belts with the caption: ‘Just when you thought I didnt win enough trophies in 2018’ in reference to the fact that he won the Premier League title and the Community Shield with City and the World Cup with France.

The left-back wasn’t part of City’s squad for their 5-0 thrashing of Cardiff and took the opportunity to attend the fight as Joshua won with a seventh-round stoppage of Povetkin. 

This victory saw Joshua unbeaten professional record extend to 22 fights, with 21 of those having been victories. 

Mendy wasn’t the only celebrity in attendance, with some star names from the world of boxing also present.

Among them were the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard, and Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine.

British boxers Tony Bellew and Dillian Whyte also watched the fight along with actor Idris Elba. 

Whyte has been identified as a potential candidate to take on Joshua in his next fight at Wembley on April 13. 

UK rapper Nines, meanwhile, performed a spin of his song ‘I see you shining’ as the intro for Joshua to come out for his ring walk.

After a closely-fought start to the fight, Joshua suffered a bloodied nose from Povetkin’s final punch of the first round. 

However, Joshua landed two significant blows in the seventh round that led to him winning the fight.
