The 28-year-old’s gown – which featured an embellished bodice, black ruffled shoulder detailing and a matching hemline – sparked debate on social media, with one person even comparing the design to a ‘car wash’.

Elsewhere, one critic Tweeted that they were feeling confused about the aesthetic meaning behind the fishtail gown, writing: ‘I simply do not understand the statement sleeves are trying to make.’ 

Despite the onslaught of negative feedback, Margot did receive her fair share of online compliments, with one Twitter fan gushing: ‘OHH MYY… There she is. How come Margot Robbie always looks sooo… gorgeous and stunning?’
