But Mariah Carey appeared unfazed by his comments in New York on Saturday, as she stepped out wearing the $10million engagement ring he gave her last year.
The singer, 47, kept casual in a garish animal print tracksuit as she made her way to the Beacon Theatre for her Christmas concert – but still sported the dazzling 30-carat rock on her middle finger for all to see.

The singer kept comfortable in a black and white animal print bomber jacket, and matching slim-fit trousers as she left her hotel – with an attentive staff member holding an umbrella above her head.
Never one to dress down however, Mariah teamed the low-key ensemble with sky-high platform heels and dark oversized sunglasses, in typically glamorous finishing touches.
However, it was the dazzling 30-carat diamond on her middle finger that caught the most attention, as it was the ring given to her by ex James Packer, who she split from last year.

Mariah has been seen wearing the ring on numerous occasions recently – despite her ex branding their year-and-a-half romance a ‘mistake’ last month.
Talking to The Australian, the billionaire explained: ‘She was kind, exciting and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. She is very bright. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.’
He said he met the songstress at a ‘low point’ in his life, when he was looking for a way to spend more time in LA to be closer to his children with second wife Erica, and when debt within his empire was escalating.
Packer, now 50, said he was also under strain from a painstaking negotiation process with his estranged sister Gretel over how they would divvy up and invest money they had been left by their late father Kerry.
The pair made their romance public during a European yachting holiday in Italy in 2015 and then paraded it on a sequence of luxurious holidays for months to follow.
He proposed in January 2016 during a dinner in New York City, her home town, with the $10million engagement ring she allegedly demanded to keep when they split in October.
It was reported last week that the pair had finally come to a financial settlement – with Mariah potentially receiving a staggering $10 million.
While the mother-of-two was hoping for $50 million, The Blast claimed this week she and Packer quietly entered into a settlement agreement a few months ago, with her package valued between $5 and $10 million.
