Martha Kalifatidis hits out at viewers who criticised her for boasting that her parents support her

‘I don’t know why they care’: MAFS ‘mean girl’ Martha Kalifatidis, 30, hits out at viewers who criticised her for boasting that her parents support her… and claims she’s too famous to work

Martha Kalifatidis, 30, has furiously denied she lives off of her parents amid backlash over comments she made on Married a First Sight on Sunday.

The Bondi-based makeup artist told Kyle and Jackie O on Monday that while she did in fact say on the show that her parents support her financially, they only did this for a brief period in her life while she filmed MAFS late last year.

She added that being in the spotlight has made it ‘hard’ to return to work and that she doesn’t know ‘why [people] care’ about her finances.

‘Guys can we clear something up because the amount of messages that people are saying about me not working… That reunion was filmed like during the Christmas break and I didn’t go back to work and I don’t rely on my parents,’ Martha said.

‘… I said my parents have been supporting me in between the wrapping of filming and like, the Christmas break that they had supported me which is true they had… I couldn’t go back to work for like two weeks over Christmas.

‘I’m not asking for money from anyone, I don’t know why they care.’

Martha, whose parents live in Melbourne, said before appearing on MAFS she used to work as a freelance makeup artist but she refuses to go back to work because her newfound fame has made it ‘unsafe’.

‘I was freelancing and right now I don’t just want to be turning up to people’s houses, I just don’t feel safe at the moment and I don’t know who I can trust,’ she said.

‘… I did ask to go back to my old job which was at a retailer but they don’t want… it’s too much of a liability for them as well. I’m just in a hard spot at the moment.’

Martha hinted that she regrets doing the controversial reality show.

‘If I had know what I know today, I’d probably think about it a little bit more,’ she said.

It comes after Martha was widely condemned by viewers on social media after she and her co-star, Jessika Power, bragged about living off of their parents during Sunday’s reunion episode.

‘I’m not working, I’m not working, like my parents are supporting me,’ Martha said.

Jessika, 27, replied:  ‘I don’t know how I keep getting money… My dad’s like, ‘do you need $5,000’ and I’m like ‘yes daddy’.’

Martha, who also bragged that she would be wearing an expensive Prada outfit to part two of the reunion, agreed with Jessika, saying – ‘Me neither, somehow [money] manages to find its way into my account.’
