Matt Damon addresses his ailing father Kent

Matt Damon has asked for prayers for his ailing father Kent.

The actor, 47, pulled out of an appearance last minute at the BAFTA Britannia Awards  in October due to a family emergency that involved his father, and while promoting his upcoming film Downsizing, Damon addressed his father’s health.

When Extra correspondent A.J. Calloway told Damon he was praying for his father, Damon replied, ‘We’ll take any prayers you got, so throw ’em up there.’

‘It’s been a slow unfolding,’ the actor remarked. ‘My dad’s sick, that’s been a process that we’ve been going through.’

Though it’s unclear how his father had fallen ill, in 2011 it emerged Damon’s father was battling multiple myeloma.

E! reported at the time that Kent was in remission.

Damon was pictured leaving an appearance at The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday in a sharp blue suit and black shoes.

In October, Damon was scheduled to collect the Stanley Kubrik Britannia Award for Excellence at the BAFTA LA event at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

One BAFTA member attendee told DailyMail.com: ‘Matt is not attending now. We heard that he had a family crises and that his father was taken gravely ill. But we have not heard anymore than that. A few people know but the majority of guests were not informed.’

The actor confirmed that he cancelled his BAFTA honor appearance due to a ‘family emergency’ in a 20 second video clip in which he apologized for his late withdrawal, citing personal issues.

Meanwhile, Damon’s co-star Hong Chau has been nominated for both a Critics’ Choice Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Downsizing.

The sci-fi film will be released on December 22, 2017.
