Mattia De Sciglio believes Juventus will beat Tottenham

  • Tottenham drew 2-2 with Juventus on Tuesday at the Italian’s Allianz stadium
  • Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen cancelled out Gonzalo Higuain’s brace
  • Juve defender Mattia De Sciglio is confident the Old Lady will win at Wembley
  • The two sides meet in the second leg on March 7 for a quarter-final position

Despite surrendering a 2-0 lead and having been largely outplayed for most of the first leg, Juventus defender Mattia De Sciglio is convinced that the Italians will go to Wembley in the second leg and win.

Gonzalo Higuain scored a brace in the first ten minutes, one from a clever free-kick and the other from the penalty spot, before Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen ensured the tie ended level.

Juventus had chances to kill off the tie in those frantic early moments and had Higuain not missed a second penalty just before the half-time interval, the complexion of the game could have been different.

For a side that had not conceded a single goal in 2018, Juventus appeared overwhelmed by their visitors and, over the course of the evening, had just 33 per cent possession.

And for De Sciglio, the greatest disappointment was the inability to be ruthless when Tottenham appeared wounded early on.

‘We knew it was going to be a difficult game,’ the defender told Mediaset Premium.

‘Tottenham are very strong, especially in midfield and attack.

‘I think we made a mistake when we were 2-0 up. We started to defend too deep allowing them to have the ball easily in midfield. It’s a pity because we wasted a very important lead, but I’m sure that we can win at Wembley.

‘We know it will be difficult again because we are facing strong opponents, but we must remain confident, especially after watching what we did in the first 10 minutes.’

The 25-year-old Italian was pinned back once Tottenham got a foothold in the game and with the pitch as big as it is at Wembley, the Juventus defender will be hoping to find himself on the front, rather than back, foot over the 90 minutes.
