Meghan Markle’s dress bears striking resemblance to Diana’s tunic

Eagle-eyed royal watchers have spotted that the Oscar de la Renta dress worn by Meghan bears a striking resemblance to a tunic once worn by Princess Diana.

The Duchess of Sussex, 36, divided fashion fans with the £3,922 printed frock she wore to the wedding of Prince Harry’s cousin Celia McCorquodale in Stoke Rochford, Lincolnshire, on Saturday.

However, some royal watchers say that the dress is similar to a blue and white printed tunic by Catherine Walker that Diana, who would have been 25 at the time, wore during a visit to Saudi Arabia in 1986.

Instagram fan account loveprincessdiana posted side-by-side pictures of Meghan and Diana in the two dresses, showing how the frocks feature similar necklines and floral prints.

Other social media users were quick to comment on the comparison between the two frocks worn by the pair.

One wrote ‘Really??? She’s coping Diana’s style’, while another added: ‘Beautiful prints on two beauties’.

However, not everyone was impressed by the similar looks worn by the pair.

One fan commented: ‘Only one Diana, Meghan is her own person, with her own style.

‘Hope they let her be her own person and not try to copy Diana. It just looks strange otherwise.’

It comes after Meghan’s floaty wrap dress from Oscar de la Renta’s 2019 collection – which she teamed with a £29.50 fascinator from Marks & Spencer – divided fashion fans.

While Harper’s Bazaar branded it the ‘perfect outfit for the summer nuptials’, some likened it to a baggy dressing gown or a pair of curtains.

Daily Mail style editor Dinah van Tulleken said the dress was more Laura Ashley than de la Renta.

She said the maxi dress ‘swamps the Duchess of Sussex’s tiny frame, which gets lost beneath all the ruffles.’

As well as the controversy over her frock, Meghan narrowly avoided a tumble as she arrived at the wedding of Celia McCorquodale, the niece of Princess Diana, and George Woodhouse on Saturday.

Footage shows how she came close to slipping as she made her way across the grass in her sky-high Aquazzura heels.

Luckily, Harry had a firm grip on her hand and managed to prevent her from stumbling.
