Melbourne man throws rocks at cars in Strathmore

  • An unknown man threw fist-sized rocks at cars in Strathmore, Melbourne
  • The attack, on Sunday, caused damage to several cars in the street
  • And despite several reports to police, no further action has been taken

A ‘bearded man in a hatchback’ has gone on a bizarre rampage through the streets of Melbourne’s north as he threw rocks at parked cars.

Napier Avenue in Strathmore was the target of the attack on Sunday morning which saw the unknown man drive slowly through the street and deliberately throw rocks at nearby cars.

Kate McIntosh witnessed one of the incidents and told 3AW’s Ross and John of the thrower’s shamelessness when committing the offence.

‘We didn’t see anything when he was coming towards us but then heard a massive bang, and a car’s mirror was hanging off,’ Kate said to the program’s The Rumour File.

‘We turned around and there was a massive rock, like one from the train tracks, in the middle of the road.’

Despite the man’s bold behaviour, when Kate reported the incident to police she was told nothing could be done to take it further.

‘We drove to the police station and an officer came out and had a look at the damage and took the rock, and said, ”We can’t do anything”.

‘He didn’t even take our details and we found out other people had reported the same thing earlier in the day and when they rang the police they wouldn’t even send a car out,’ she said.

The program’s host Ross Stevenson was equally shocked at the authorities lack of urgency asking, ‘a man’s alleged to have committed a crime and they don’t even want your details?’

Three cars were damaged in the brazen incident and no further police action has been taken.
