Men survive Melbourne crash after their car collides with Dandenong Primary School

Two men have escaped serious injury and a third is clinging to life in hospital after the car they were travelling smashed into a Melbourne primary school.

The high-speed collision occurred as the vehicle rolled into Dandenong Primary School in the city’s south-east in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Footage captured on the school’s CCTV shows as the white sedan hurled toward the red-brick building at high speed shortly before 2am.

It is thought the car lost control around a bend and smashed through the barrier of the school before rolling and coming to a stop at its entrance.

In the CCTV footage one of the passengers is seen allegedly removing potentially incriminating from the wreckage and placing it away from the scene.

Two of the car’s three male occupants, aged 19 and 29 are seen leaving the wreckage unaided before it is flipped upward by volunteers.

While two made a hasty escape, their 18-year-old friend lay pinned underneath the car until he was also aided by passers-by.

He remains in a coma with head injuries at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

The car’s two other passengers were arrested at the scene but have yet to be formally charged by police.

One of the arrested men was later taken to Dandenong Hospital as a precaution for minor injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the vehicle currently remains unknown, as does whether or not the vehicle was stolen.

Victoria Police told waiting media earlier today that the three men were lucky to be alive due to the severity of the crash.

‘We’re very lucky that no one’s been killed on this occasion, it just shows the dangers of what can occur in a car,’ said Inspector Mark Langhorn.
