Meryl Streep has warned that people should be afraid because President Trump’s children are ‘in jeopardy’ and he may be willing do ‘anything’ to get them out of trouble.

The acclaimed 69-year-old actress was speaking at the Montclair Film Festival’s ‘An Evening with Stephen Colbert’ event which is put on by the Late Show host.

Streep was introduced by Colbert by way of Trump’s characterization of her as ‘one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood.’

The actress says she empathizes with Trump, whose children are in the public eye and likely caught up in the cross hairs of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Russian government’s efforts to interfere with the 2016 presidential election.

‘I’m scared by [Trump]. By his possibility. I empathize with him. I can’t imagine what his 3am is like. There is a gathering storm. Everybody feels it. He feels it. His children are in jeopardy and I feel that. I think, what if my children were jeopardy? I would do anything. Anything! To get them out of trouble. So we should be afraid,’ Streep said on stage.

Streep has four children with sculptor Don Gummer.

Both Ivanka and Don Jr. are wrapped in the Mueller probe.

In just one thread of the probe it was revealed last week that Ivanka Trump recommended the architect for the failed Trump Tower Moscow project in an email to Michael Cohen, it has been revealed.

Cohen copied Ivanka and Don Trump Jr on emails about the project in late 2015, and Ivanka replied suggesting an architect for the building, according to a person close to the Trump Organization.

Ivanka was also due to have a spa inside the building branded with her name, according to documents linked to the project.

The Trump Organization previously turned over the emails to congressional committees, but their existence became public with renewed scrutiny on the planned luxury development in Russia following Cohen’s surprise guilty plea.

On Thursday, Cohen, the president’s former personal attorney confessed that he had lied to Congress when he said that the plans for Trump Tower Moscow had fallen through in January of 2016 – they had actually fallen through in June of that year.
