Michelle Obama reveals the cover of her new memoir BECOMING and shares never-before-seen photos

Michelle Obama has revealed the cover of her new memoir along with never-before-seen photos included in the book.

The portrait, taken earlier this year in Washington DC, shows the former First Lady beaming with a wide smile as the book’s title BECOMING is printed overhead.

Mrs Obama shared the photo on her social media platforms Thursday, explaining that ‘the process of writing this book has been so personally meaningful and illuminating for me’.

Leading up to the book cover reveal, Mrs Obama also shared four personal photos from her childhood, to her wedding, and her family in the White House- all of which she says are apart of what has shaped her.

Mrs Obama wrote on Twitter: ‘As I prepare to share BECOMING this fall, I hope you’ll also think about your own story, and trust that it will help you become whoever you aspire to be. Your story is what you have, what you will always have. It is something to own. #BECOMING’

The former first lady selected the cover for her book jacket from a photo shoot with renowned photographer Miller Mobley.

The Crown Publishing Group described her memoir as a ‘work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling’.

It will chronicle the experiences that Mrs Obama says shaped her, including her childhood on the South Side of Chicago, becoming a mother, and of course, being the First Lady in the White House.

‘With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms,’ the publishing company writes.

One photo shows then Michelle Robinson, with her parents in their ‘cramped apartment’ in Chicago.

‘My father, Fraser, taught me to work hard, laugh often, and keep my word. My mother, Marian, showed me how to think for myself and to use my voice. Together, in our cramped apartment on the South Side of Chicago, my family helped me see the value in our story, in my story, and in the larger story of our country,’ she captioned the photo.

'Home has always been where our family is...It hasn’t mattered whether we’re lounging on a couch in Chicago’s Hyde Park or, as we are here, in the White House,' Michelle captioned her photo

Another photo shows a young Michelle at Princeton University in the early 1980s.

‘I was black and from a working-class neighborhood in Chicago, while Princeton’s student body was generally white and well-to-do,’ she writes.

She also described details of her wedding day ago in the caption of an image from 25 years ago.

‘You can’t tell it from this photo, but Barack woke up on our wedding day in October, 1992 with a nasty head cold. Somehow, by the time I met him at the altar, it had miraculously disappeared and we ended up dancing almost all night,’ she writes.

The book is set to be released in the US and Canada in print and in digital formats in November.

An audio edition of the book read by Mrs Obama will also be published and the book will be available in 25 languages worldwide.

One million copies of the book will also be donated in the Obama’s name to the non-profit First Book, which provides books to children in need.
