Missing Uber driver shows up in hospital

Joshua Thiede, 29, has been found in a Los Angeles hospital a week after going missing

A missing Uber and Lyft driver who vanished a week ago after trying to call 911 has been found in a Los Angeles hospital.

Joshua Thiede had not been heard from since February 12 when he tried to call emergency services.

He hung up before anyone was able to answer.

On Monday afternoon, his Nissan Ultima was found abandoned in Koreatown.

He was found a short while later in the Good Samaritan hospital in downtown L.A.

It is not known how long he has been there, if he has any injuries or how he got there.

Friends of the 29-year-old told CBS they believed he had been drugged and said he was ‘out of it’.

The LAPD is continuing its investigation into his disappearance but officers were tight lipped on Tuesday.

Thiede’s worried family celebrated the news that he had been found on social media.

They described him as a vegan health enthusiast who is working for the ride sharing apps to support himself while he develops an organic shoeline.

‘At this time, we do not have all the details. We are just extremely happy that he is alive.

‘We are continuing to ask the LAPD to investigate the circumstances that landed him in the hospital,’ the man’s mother, Janet Thiede, said.

While her son was still missing, she contacted his phone provider for access to his records.

That showed that he had tried calling 911 on February 12 at 2.32pm.

He was last seen the day before when he left his apartment to go to work.

On Monday, his car was found after a member of public recognized it and called police.

Before going missing, Thiede texted a friend to say he was sick from the flu and was not able to meet up.

In a brief Twitter post on Monday, the LAPD said: ‘Joshua Thiede has been found alive.

‘We have no further details to provide at this time. We thank the public for their assistance in this investigation.’

A spokesman for Lyft told DailyMail.com the company was ‘relieved’ he had been found alive and well.

‘Our thoughts continue to be with his family and friends during this difficult time.

‘During the search we were in touch with law enforcement and pledged our full support and assistance.

‘We stand ready to assist in any way we can,’ they said.
